The history of this school is associated with "The Gorkhali Soldiers who worked under the British-India-Army and sacrificed their lives during the First and Second World War. Thousands of Gorkhali soldiers were killed and many of them disappeared. The payment due to those missing soldiers was established in the name of "Post-war Reconstruction Fund" for the welfare of Gorkhali ex-soldiers' families. In 1955, colonel P.C. Mohan the then military secretary of Indian Embassy came to Pokhara and visited Late Major Bir Singh Gurung. He talked with Major Bir Singh Gurung and expressed his willingness to establish a school and hospital for the welfare of Gorkhali ex-soldiers' families with the use of "Post-war Reconstruction Fund". Indian Government formed Central Co-ordination Board (CCB) to use the PWRF. With this fund; "Ex-Indian Gorkha Soldiers' Board Vocational Training High School" was established on 26th March 1957 in the land donated by Mukhiya Dev Raj Ghimire and Ghimire families.

In 1958, His Majesty Late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev laid the foundation stone of the main building. In 1963, Dr. Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan, the then president of India, paid an inspection visit to this Institution under his state visit programme of Nepal. Later, in 1966 Central Co-Ordination Board formally handed over all the responsibility to run this school to His Majesty's Government of Nepal. At the same moment to keep the memory of those brave warriors, the initial name of this school was changed to Shree Amar Singh High School, with view to commemorate the brave man of Nepal.

Presently, various programmes are running, under its direct supervision, from preparatory to standard ten, both in English and Nepali mediums. A blind section is also being run for the blind children. In higher secondary level there are faculties of Science, Management, Humanities and Education. About 2100 students are studying in various sections and faculties in this Higher Secondary Level. There are 133 teachers and administrative staffs. Considering quality of education and its overwhelming number of students and working staffs, His Majesty Government, Ministry of Education declared it as a Model School in the Western Development region in 2001 (2058 B.S.).
